Harassed at Amazon, legitimately

So, I had been working for Amazon for a year plus. When I started working there, my boss at the time came down on me for a mistake that wasn’t my fault, I didn’t make. I went to HR to document, just in case this was going to be a reoccurring theme and wanted to make them aware. The next day, HR was outside my depts area mocking me. Apparently, the HR rep that was responsible for this was fired months later. Unfortunately, this was not well received by my boss who then assigned me all the cleaning/bottom of the barrel tasks. Previous shifts would leave loose equipment and trash on carts and it was my responsibility to clean it. I also received all the heavy lifting tasks of moving equipment from area to area. My boss gave me one of the lowest raises in our department across the whole…

My boss gave me one of the lowest raises in our department across the whole organization, although a lot of my work was more efficient, better documented and led to less downtime for our customer as opposed to other members with the same title. However….some members on our team legitimately deserved a better raise than me for their efforts.

One of my coworkers temporarily was apart of my shared shift to accommodate for attrition in our department, and he told me my boss was leaving all those tasks to me on purpose and my boss was also blaming anything that went wrong in the department on me. He told me that now that he sees what I’m doing, he doesn’t think it’s my fault anymore.

About a month or so later, my coworkers started leaving trash and loose equipment on my desk. We got a new boss who relayed to me that our team members have an issue with me, but they can’t note anything I’m doing wrong and have no explanation for it.

After my experience with HR, I decided not to go to HR and spoke to everyone directly. Since I live in a one party consent state, I talked to some coworkers and recorded the convo – they claim they see that people are leaving trash and other equipment on my desk and they find it disrespectful too and in the convo they claim they can see I’m not retaliating. My one coworker described the place as toxic and stated he would be aggressively applying for a new job soon. During a team meeting, as an additional effort, I asked them to stop again. It still went on for about three months after.

My new boss had an impromptu meeting with me, which I also recorded where he claims that people have been saying I’ve been stealing time and harassing people. I imagine this is his attempt to make me uncomfortable and to quit, as my efforts to coax things over with the team failed. He also told me not to leave the building during breaks, I told him if anything the company owes me time for me not clocking in for team meetings etc..I waited a couple shifts later and went to HR to figure out what was going on and they had no idea what I was talking about. My manager stated I had multiple complaints and they came from HR….

I was eventually fired for trying to correct the situation on my own; I had some of the best metrics in the department and have these records for my safe keeping(printed). I imagine this is the reason why they couldn’t put me on a PIP. I have a feeling that this was partly motivated by my past lawyers statement for a civil case that was public; I googled my name and found that this was out there in the Internet.

Months before taking the job I sued my old landlord/person who leased me an apt, for locking me out due to a maintenance complaint. My lawyer, to beef up the claim, made a bunch of very exaggerated statements about my mental health and somehow it was apart of the public filing of the case. He did this without asking for my authorization.

I had to get another lawyer and paid 1800 to him to seal it. He advised that I can make a compliant to the bar association but it would likely do nothing and I’m better off washing my hands of the situation.

While working at Amazon, I found another job doing the same exact thing & I’m literally considered the best new hire (this has been said, I would never say this about myself) which makes me confused because I was treated like utter garbage at amazon. Sometimes I sit at my desk feeling like a fraud, wondering how I could even be in this position after the way I was treated at Amazon.

Before someone says sue, you have to understand that someone has to admit these actions were motivated by a perceived mental health status, etc…This will most likely never happen and I didn’t handle the situation perfectly on my end as well towards the end.
