Having a single boss with no children is a difficult situation

For the most part I’ve always had a boss who was married or in a relationship with someone, and also had children. My current boss has no children and is not close with her parents. Her life is work at 50+ years of age. She constantly replies to emails after hours even on her vacation. I feel she expects that of me. I enjoy having a family and kids, and I often tell her I’m NOT replying to emails unless I get paid extra….or this can wait until next business day. I’ve been written up before for “yelling” at her when she tries to juggle 15 projects at a time. Anyone else in that situation with a boss who’s only will to live is work?!! If it wasn’t for the fact I’m well liked at work, unionized, and a minority in a predominantly white work environment, I think she would…

If it wasn’t for the fact I’m well liked at work, unionized, and a minority in a predominantly white work environment, I think she would have let me go a while back.
