Heard a rumor, curious if it’s true

So a while back, I heard an interesting little rumor about grocery stores (or basically any business). Struck me that I would see if anyone else had heard the same thing/ knew if this was true or not. So I once heard that most stores that ask if you’d like to donate money to XYZ charity, use that money as a tax write off. Not donate and match, just straight up donate and write it off as if they were using their own money. Anyone know if that’s true? I know there is also the possibility that they are simply pocketing most of the money (especially if they go over there projected donation amount).
