So I work at a landscaping company and we have maybe 20 employees total. We work 5, 10 hour days and one Saturday a month if we need it. It's hard work and lots of wheelbarrowing but I've been powering through trying to stick it out for the season. I'm honestly so tired and sore after work I don't do much else.
Today my boss said we have made $600k and our revenue goal is $1.6m for the year. We are over half way through the season so he decided we all need to do mandatory Saturdays from here on out to make up for our inefficiency.
I don't understand why 50 hours isn't enough, and the idea of 60 hours a week makes me wanna quit tomorrow. I want to confront my manager or the owner but I want to sound professional and respectful. How do I tell him I'm definitely not giving up every Saturday for the rest of the summer, I've already got plans, and 60 hours will ruin my body?
I was looking up the history of the 40 hour work week and saw that there have been hundreds of studies showing the negatives of working more than 40 hours. Do I show that to my boss or is that petty? Maybe I should just quit? I know others are also pissed but I don't think anyone will actually speak up. Any thoughts on how to approach my boss without sending him into a rage?
