I’ve been cooking at a family run restaurant for about 2 months and it’s just me and the chef who cook, the owner will cook when it gets busy but only the 2 of us are employed as cooks. I like everyone except the owners wife who is always making rude comments towards both us cooks. The owner is a really nice guy and is going on vacation in two weeks to see family, which is about the same time another restaurant wants me to start. The new place is one of the best restaurants in town and pays an extra 3$ an hour to start and said we’ll discuss a raise after 3 months. I tried quitting today saying I’ll give him 2 weeks to find another cook but he said he’ll have to cancel his vacation if he can’t find someone else because there’s only 1 other cook. I don’t want to ask my new employer to give me another week or two to start because it’s one of the best restaurants in town and I already said I can start in two weeks. I’m in a tough spot because I like my current employer and I don’t want him to cancel his vacation but this new opportunity is really good. Any advice you guys have is greatly appreciated!
