Without going into the background too much. A co-worker at another site. He was loyal to the company to a fault. I got wind the store would be closing in 120 days. There aren't any other managers dedicated to this site and other managers are from other stores in the area because H.R. is underpaying everyone and they can't find workers/managers willing to do the job for that little at this site. He would come in at 6:00 AM and leave at 6:00 PM some days. No less than 60 hours a week plus a 50-minute drive each way all for the great pay of 56K a year.
I quietly advised him to find another job. I didn't let him know the store closing was coming up. He questioned me and I let him know – I can't tell you exactly why but you REALLY NEED TO FIND ANOTHER JOB. I hope you understand what I'm saying. He said he did. He applied for a job 48 hours later and 72 hours after that he had an offer letter for just over 100K a year with bonuses. The new location is less than 10 minutes from his house and he and his wife are super happy about the increase in pay the number of hours will be less than 50 per week and be home in 10 minutes or less.
The company I work for would absolutely lay this guy off without any advance notice. The employees at the site will be able to transfer to other stores but this position would be eliminated. I wouldn't call myself human if I didn't tell him privately.
Don't let your own company screw over people. It could be you receiving a heads-up someday.
