So I just wrapped up a lengthy interview process. Final call was with the hiring manager, saying all the feedback from interviewers was positive and to expect a call from the recruiter to discuss an offer. He then dared to say that the company opens with their BEST offer – a 100% bullshit lie and something that has literally never happened in the history of hiring. When the offer was presented by the recruiter, the salary was 30% lower than the initial range we had discussed. The hiring manager (who would not be involved in any negotiation) was obviously trying to lay the groundwork for this lowball offer. It worked for him in one regard – I didn't negotiate, just rejected it outright. Major red flags. Always be prepared to walk away, even in the final stages!
