Hiring managers will say anything they think you want to hear.

Started a job a month ago, already interviewing other places. The main reason is what people in this sub typically understand- the hiring manager will say anything. In this case, I was told to pick my hours, so I chose 8am-4pm. It worked well for my family’s schedule. Earlier today, I got invited to a site visit starting at 3:45 at a partner location. I declined as it is 25 miles from my office and starts 15 minutes before my end of day. I just got spoken to for needing to be “more flexible”, and that I need to accept that site visit invitation. When I explained my reason, I was told to “arrange someone else to pick up your kids, or to do whatever it is you need done”. I was told that these visits are common and often after 3:30. I asked how flexible THEY are since I chose a shift within their own options. That resulted in more “be flexible, it’s part of your job” language.

Anyway, be prepared to be told one thing, then to be disappointed when you think you got all the right info, but they expect more of you. Better yet, start your own business and do YOU.
