Obligatory 'this happened 10 minutes ago'
I work in a large condominium housing 80+ units of some full-time and some part-time residents. I am part of the small maintenance team that manages the building and ensures it's safe and clean and everything is working properly.
Myself, my supervisor, and my coworker are all enjoying our 1-hour unpaid lunch break, when suddenly the president of the building's HOA comes in and greets us, “Aw, look at you little people in here enjoying your food!” She then proceeds to ask my supervisor to do something that could definitely wait until after the break. He agrees, leaves his wife, who he's having lunch with, and goes to tend to the matter.
Maybe I'm overreacting, but a week prior, the HOA president took the three of us to lunch. At the time I thought “oh what a nice gesture.” Now I'm looking at it as her way of buying us off so we might prioritize her needs even during our hour of personal time. Perhaps it wouldn't be coming off this way if it weren't for the “little people” comment, but rest assured if she makes it a habit of interrupting lunch for menial tasks, there's going to be some words.
