Slow and steady is sad. But I've worked for decades as a contractor. That style of work made me feel that the minute I got into the shower to dress up for a remote site, I should be on the clock.
Not surprisingly few employers agreed with me. After two-decades, I decided I need to work from home. This was before the covid lockdown. Now I'm seeing salaries not reflecting the costs of running my own office. I don't commute. I don't use space in some downtown highrise. I don't use electric or internet but my own.
A few years ago, there was a tax credit for running a home office. That's gone. Voters should bring that back. Distributed work environments work for many work sectors. Businesses will not reciprocate your own expenses unless forced to by a federal mandate.
We need home office tax-breaks back.
