So I've worked in this (chain) restaurant for just over four years, although I do leave every summer but it suits them too so we (should) are all good. I've seen them open 8 restaurants since I started with them, before they only had 2.
I have the most experience, great soft skills for the job, the mind of a boss (grew up in a restaurant, I know all the is and outs)… bla bla bla I don't want to bore anyway so I'll try be quick.
I've seen the most useless waiters be promoted to manager over these fours years, you have no idea. I never got offered any promotion, despite everyone always recognising my work as stellar.
It's likely because I “argue with them”.. aka, I demand to work the hours I'm on contract, not 16 extra. aka, I moan about them not paying nightly rates (I finish at 2am) and about them paying LESS for overtime than regular time.
HOW can anyone offer less for overtime than regular work? The company will give you 20h overtime a week and you're literally losing money.
My girlfriend says I've got an ego problem or whatever, but I just can't comprehend the situation tbh…
