Hi.
I'm a student currently working toward my bachelor of design at a Top 5 Canadian university. At the end of my degree I'll have skills across graphic design (branding, layout, illustration, wayfinding, photography, print, UX/UI etc), industrial/product design (prototyping, modeling, concept development, ideation, manufacturing etc). I'm also taking business & marketing courses as a part of my degree, so I will have some management, accounting and marketing courses under my belt as well. I should have around 7-10 projects in my portfolio once I'm done, plus illustrations and one-off pieces, which is great for a new grad.
Design can be a very lucrative career, the field is growing, and I truly love it. On the other hand, the creative professions can also be known for shit like “design tests” to get hired, client abuse/bullshit and working for “exposure”. It's also really easy to get hit with impostor syndrome and think I don't deserve what I'm making, but fuck that.
So how can I do thorough salary research to make sure I'm getting paid what I deserve once I start working? I know Glassdoor shows a salary range by city and title, but I haven't really found anything thorough. Is there a consultant I can hire or something?
Thanks in advance!
