Good evening,
Long story short a few months back my bosses announced they would be hiring a second person in my position. I pull video for a mental health company in Arizona. I have worked there for 2.5 years. My starting pay was $19.00 and i'm currently making $20.20.
I told them i would love to move up to a more senior position and take on all on boarding for the new employee. That was denied. I then put in for a formal hr pay review that was denied. Well surprise they hired a second employee and want me to take on all training duties for no extra pay. This guy is likely getting paid the same or more then me so i said no. I said with out a senior roll or increase in pay i wouldn't do it.
On Friday my bosses call me with HR on the line and put me on admin leave, asking me to sign a commitment letter:
“Date of return to work
Dear Company Name:
The purpose of this letter is to express my sincere commitment to abide by the
employment policies and procedures.
I understand that I have been verbally counseled and warned regarding my Policy
Violation & Number on the following dates:
Insert Dates and times
Insert Dates and times
Additionally, I understand that because of the violation that occurred incident date, I
have violated the terms of my performance action plan and because of this violation I was
given a career advisory day (a day off from work) to reflect upon my employment.
After reflecting on my employment, I am ready to commit to abide by my worksite
policies on a go forward basis. I understand that failure to correct this behavior or not
abide by the policies and procedures of my worksite will lead to termination of my
employment.
Sincerely,
Employee Name”
I asked if i refused to sign the letter than what, and they said i would be quiting then. I said no you would be firing me. Then somehow that i can't remember explained how it would work in there favor. Meaning i don't think i would get unemployment either.
My options are
1: Sign the what ever letter, train the dude for one day doing as little as possible and call in sick until i get fired. So i can use up some pto and then if i get fired for calling in i can get unemployment? This is my best idea on how to win here
2: I walk TF away, losing $1500 in pto, and no unemployment, I refuse to share knowledge i had to learn on my own. The systems are all broke and not labeled correctly. I.t. is short handed. I think this would hurt them the most because my bosses do not know how to do my job. They just get praised for the 2800 request i have done since starting.
TLDR: Company is making it seem like i'm quiting no matter what so i can't get unemployment and in policy if you have been there 2 years you get 0% of your pto paid out.
Thank you so much for reading, F Capitalism. I just want to float in the ocean, eating pineapple.
