I wanna start by saying this may sounds like a baiting title, but I promise it’s not. I’m just curious how other people feel.
So reading through a lot of posts about some of the toxic environments you work at, one thing I notice is, most of us are naturally hard workers overall. I do believe that, by the way, but I do notice that a usual pattern is we work very hard, we are taken advantage of instead of rewarded, and we begin to work for what they pay us. But it’s pretty understanding that, if most of us were given excellent bosses with reasonable tasks and financial bonuses for recognition, we would be happy and willing to work hard.
But, I want to know how you all feel about bad workers. I’m sure we have all worked with them, and I don’t mean “doesn’t smile while mopping up puke at the McDonald’s where they are underpaid” bad. Like, I work at a family friendly restaurant as a bartender, and even though there are no phones allowed while working, the managers are really relaxed on that and don’t really care. But because of that, there are a couple people that will ignore helping out everyone else and customers to text friends for 10 mins at a time, or how there are a couple people who are sick/an emergency came up 2-3 times a week. I want to fight against toxic work environments and toxic bosses, but I don’t know how to pair that with fighting for people who genuinely don’t want to help when it’s needed or complain about reasonable requests at work.
