How do you deal with this kind of “manager” ?

My “manager” is an outsider to the company, not an employee, and especially the husband of a director close to the CEO (they have a good relationship). The situation was supposed to be temporary but it's been over a year. Now, about my manager (I'll call him Bill): Bill asks my colleagues and me to do certain tasks, and then does nothing with them. If we have to present a job to the hierarchy, which Bill has asked us to do, and it is criticised: Bill acquiesces and supports the hierarchy's criticism, as if he had nothing to do with it. It's difficult to work with a manager who can stab you in the back… Bill also forgets all the time what he asked or told us to do. It happens that he says to me “I don't understand what you did”. My “manager” is an outsider to the company, not an employee, and especially the husband of a director close to the CEO (they have a good relationship). The situation was supposed to be temporary but it's been over a year.

Now, about my manager (I'll call him Bill):

Bill asks my colleagues and me to do certain tasks, and then does nothing with them.

If we have to present a job to the hierarchy, which Bill has asked us to do, and it is criticised: Bill acquiesces and supports the hierarchy's criticism, as if he had nothing to do with it. It's difficult to work with a manager who can stab you in the back…

Bill also forgets all the time what he asked or told us to do. It happens that he says to me “I don't understand what you did”. And when I reminded him of what he had asked me and when, he replied “but you know, it's changeable” (YES BILL I WILL READ YOUR MIND TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO)

Bill also changes his mind all the time and wants to check everything.

Today was too much:

For an email we have to send to all our clients, he made us change the text and the visuals more than 10 times today. So we lost a lot of time.

I was working overtime in the evening to finish all the changes he wanted when I get an email from Bill “The mailing and guide are not in the file. It was scheduled to be sent out by the Sales team today, the timing is off, it's a shame.”

The reasons why it is late? 1. Bill has not validated the guide that was sent to him 2 days ago! 2. The emailing is late because it took him a long time to reply each time plus he was always making changes… 3. We are waiting for a text from someone in Sales to send the email.

Only reasons that are not dependent on me or my colleagues…We have done all we can with the resources we have been given.

I have been very accommodating to Bill, but this is not possible. He's a director's husband, but I'm tired of walking on eggshells. How do you handle that kind of manager?

I would like to stay for 2 years to get enough experience (this is my first job after studying) and I am 1.5 years into the company.

EDIT: typo
