So I'm a scientist, I also teach courses. We had a shortage of instructors for the last year and they've been hiring instructors from nearby colleges to do one-offs and paying them 2x for it. The lab courses are needed but they're at a sht-ton of work.
Since I've taught those courses at least 10+ times they always try to get me to volunteer to instruct. I told the lab supervisor I wasn't going to do it unless they pay me what scabs get. Otherwise I'm teaching lecture courses which pay 1.5x what lab instruction gets.
He actually broke down and cleared the scab pay but I'm going to be contracted that semester and will also have my regular responsibilities so essentially 2x my regular work load for 3x the pay.
