Best example: local college is a gov.institution and will hire you with the understanding you will work full time but will be given a mandatory 2 weeks off. This will be seen as you not showing up for work for an extended period. After this break you will be allowed to work the position again but without being able to claim benefits, as the gap is time is sufficient to deny you coverage essentially filling a temp position with a weirdly permanent employee.
I’ve heard the post office does this too where the claim is they’re hiring for peak temporary help but they just resign their old temps, for years.
