Hi Reddit,
This has been on my mind lately. I have only had one full time job in my life which I am currently still working in. Over the years I have realised that the company I work in likes to severely under pay people, this is true as all of my colleagues discuss this as well as ex-employees post's reviews on Job sites.
HR always like's to refuse pay increases and their reasoning is always “Budget” that if we pay people extra we would have to let go of additional people. During the pandemic most of us working probably had a generous 1% pay rise while inflation is fucking hovering around 20%+…
The CEO' not too long ago was telling my manager that he isn't wealthy at all that his just living a normal life that there are many people wealthier than him. The funny thing is that he pay's $100K tuition for his kids each year, gave his daughter a $50K Mercedes and recently rolled up to work in a brand new $120K car which is like 3x my after home pay annual salary.
Hearing and seeing this just made me sick, knowing that they just under pay 50+ people over several decades / years and accumulation just to benefit the CEO. While normal people like us can't really afford to leave work or else we will die from being evicted from our homes or starvation.
I know people will say go get another job… It isn't really easy to say that when it's extremely hard to land another job.
I'm not asking for alot in life, the best thing a Employer can do is pay it's Employees Inflation/CPI + 2.5% each year at the bare minimum.
My question is, how does one not feel exploited and used ?
