TLDR at the end but I hope you’ll enjoy this light read!
When I was 21, I worked at the food counter in a movie theatre. I made pizza, fries, wraps, burgers, pretzels, etc.
I really hated working the food counter and I much rather enjoyed working the floor shift because all you had to do was empty trashcans, clean the bathrooms and clean the movie rooms in between movie times.
One outrageous thing worth nothing is that you needed a “training” to be eligible to get a floor shift. In other words, I only had the food counter training and therefore I wasn’t trained or suitable to work the floor shift. Talk about a stupid structure for a minimum wage job.
Anyway, I was able to get floor shifts from time to time – it depended on which supervisor made the schedule (because they rotated that task between the supervisors).
It took 3 warnings until I was fired.
The first one I got while working at that little booth you get posted at to tear people’s tickets and indicate where their movie room is. I got caught checking my phone by a supervisor who WASN’T on the job. His shift was over and he was on his way out. A couple of days later I get called in the office and am told I get a warning for it.
The second warning I got was because I put too much pickles in a burger. OK so one day the food inspector comes over for a routine visit, she grabs lunch at our food counter along with all the other supervisors on shift. Amongst them, one was responsible for making next week’s schedule and so, I asked him if he could give me at least one floor shift. He answered that it depended on the burger I’d be making him. I was stoked to hear that so when I made his burger, I gave him more pickles than the 4 I was supposed to put. Fast forward to the end of my shift, I bring my cash to the office for the count; I see said manager and ask him about the burger, he responds by saying he’s disappointed in me because I put extra pickles in it and that the food inspector even CUT his burger in HALF and TOOK A PICTURE. A couple of days later I get called in and am given a warning.
Third and last warning they called me in the office and showed me a camera capture of me (in the back of the food counter) checking my phone quickly out of my pocket. The phone wasn’t even fully out of said pocket.
I walked home quite bummed out. In hindsight, thank god I was freed of that horrible place.
Fun fact, the next job I got, on day 1 of training, I met a great friend of mine from that previous job. He was a team leader for the floor crew and was always joking around, full of energy and laugh.
That next job sucked ass (telemarketer) but the vibes were fun af.
TLDR Was fired after 3 warnings for stupid reasons. Made me hate management even more!
