I just had an interview where the employer said “everyone who lives within 15 miles needs to come to the office” which strikes me as kind of arbitrary. It sounds like they WANT people at the office, rather than NEEDING them. I probably hurt my chances at the job for asking more about that requirement, but I really do value working from home, especially when the commute is like 20+ minutes either way. I even offered to take a paycut if it meant working from home, even for part of the week.
