hi so i recently got hired at a vet clinic but on my first day there were so many red flags there's no way i wanna stay (will list these out later lol) but they do paper checks so i feel like i can't just ghost them or text i quit and leave it at that. i was gonna stay a couple extra shifts before another place hired me but
- i don't need the job; in fact i kept my old job at my prior clinic in case my new job was bad (the reason i looked for a new job is bc this one is far away and pay is sad but the manager and coworkers are great and it's not toxic at all)
- i got an interview for an emergency clinic that will pay more and is no way gonna have all these red flags.
so i worked a single shift on monday and am currently scheduled to work 2 more next week. the question is how do i tell them i quit? obviously i can just say i quit but i guess bc i have to go back and get my check i don't want to be super rude or anything. how can i quit w/o being adversarial ?? i know i'm easily replaceable so i don't feel loyalty but for some reason feel guilty not giving them some notice (even tho my first day was monday this week) just wanna get my money for my time and move on tbh
red flags at the place:
- the only place i have ever worked that still does paper records only (huge waste of paper and time seriously)- it tells me theyre not willing to adapt and change even when it's more efficient
- don't change needles after drawing up vaccines and then giving the vaccine- the only place out of the 5 clinics i've worked at that doesn't change needles
- idk why but the paper checks thing bc none of my jobs has done paper checks ONLY and no option for direct deposit at all
- the way the main dvm/owner talks to ppl is so condescending and rude; instead of being like hey this is how we do it here she's like its so inefficient why didn't u think to do it like that even though its ur first day; plus she was super rude to another tech when the muzzle came off when she was restraining a pet but they used a duck muzzle which imo is easier to get off and also the tech is also new and has only a few months of experience and even restraining takes practice
- they muzzle every single pet! another thing no other clinic i've worked at does- we read animal behavior to see if they're skittish, growing, showing lip etc. she tells us to muzzle everyone solely based on their breed, even though as a tech we go into the room first and get medical history, do a temp in the ear, and weigh the pet etc so we get some idea of their behavior. idk it just seems so unnecessary; not that i want anyone to get bitten but it just doesnt make sense to me to not read the dog's behavior
- they do 15 min doctors appts.. they're supposed to be 30 but they will fit in clients if they agree to pay an 85$ exam fee instead of 61$ but then we the techs are expected to do a whole ass work up with half the amount of time???
- this clinic has been around for 50 years and the longest person who worked there as a tech has been there for only 2 years……meanwhile other places i've worked for have ppl who've been there from like 7-40 years lol
