Hello,
I am a teacher working for my county’s summer school. We are paid hourly and have to log our own time (it is not a clock-in/out system; you cannot enter the hours until after working them). The hours for school are from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. I am the secretary for the program, so I’ve been coming around 7:30-45 and leaving around 3:30-45.
We’ve all just been notified that we are not to work more than thirty minutes past the 7 hour day (so that gives everyone only fifteen paid minutes at the beginning and end of the day). I don’t mind following this moving forward (arrive at 7:45 and leave at 3:15) but I’ve been asked to re-enter my times for three days because I entered 7:30-3:30. I definitely worked that time; I would have loved to dip out earlier but there was work to do! I’ve already worked the time, so I feel uncomfortable not getting paid for it.
Do I even have any argument though since I’m a teacher and there’s certain budgets for us? This pay has absolutely nothing to do with the school-year salary.
Any tips on how to handle this professionally would be great.
