i (f21) work at starbucks as a barista. i’ve worked for the company on and off for two years due to my not working during the school year (i’m a fourth year college student). i began working at my current location in june and am returning to college in a few days.
since i’ve been here, i’ve felt a large amount of animosity from one of the shift supervisors. i’ll admit that i stand my ground and i’ve been told that sort of behavior bothers her, but things should not have escalated this far. she often opens the store and i am scheduled for when we open, so she will unlock the doors when i get there and then walk away without saying anything, leaving me to open the door myself (this seems silly, but she opens the door before she unlocks it for everyone else, as this is the standard policy/everyone does it for each other as a curtesy).
further, she ignores me frequently throughout the day. the only time she speaks to me is when she’s issuing a command. i engage with her when she tells stories or talks to other coworkers, but she will not talk to me at all. when she corrects my actions, she does so in front of coworkers and customers instead of pulling me aside, which is incredibly embarrassing.
things hit a breaking point a few days ago. i talked to another shift supervisor and asked if this was normal, he said no and that he had noticed she was unfairly rude and unkind to me and he agreed it wasn’t right. he promised to talk to her, but i don’t think he has done that, as nothing has changed. i would talk to my store manager, but she has covid. i have not talked directly to that supervisor because i do not feel comfortable doing so.
what are my options here? i have two days left and i don’t want to spend them being miserable. would i be within my rights to walk out? i don’t feel comfortable or good working around her anymore, and she’s the supervisor for both of my final shifts. please help!
