I work at a real estate company. My job primarily revolves around selling/renting out the company's owned properties to clients. They currently have around 6, with a new one on the way. That being said, I live in an archipelago type country. It means, in order to get to another city, we must either travel using the bridge if you have your own vehicle (which i dont) or by a ferry boat.
One of the properties is on a city away that doesnt have a bridge connected to it; only way to get their is by taking the ferry. Its a tedious task waiting in the queue to buy your ticket and again waiting for several minutes for the ferry to come. The ferry terminal is also on the other side of the city, far from my work place. I rarely get appointments to go there and i am glad to, as its tiring.
So anyways, a client calls who is interested in renting out a free room from that property. She says she wants to see the place first and to arrange it 4:00pm next day. I agree, note it in my schedule and inform my manager about the appointment.
Next day comes, i call the client in the morning to confirm. She doesnt pick up. Throughout the day, I kept calling her but she never picks. 3:00pm rolls around, I give her the final call (as 1 hour is needed to reach the property) and her phone is switched off. I clock out at 4:30pm and heads home.
While I was soaking in the bath, my manager calls, all furious, yelling like a shithead. A few minutes after I had headed home, the client called (after closing time, the calls are directed to my manager's secondary phone) saying that she is at the property waiting for me. I informed him that I had called her several times to confirm the viewing as I dont want to go there betting on the whether she'll ever show up or not. He blows off on me saying that the client had said YESTERDAY that she will come to see the place and that i have to head there RIGHT NOW. I get angry at this point and refuse. By the time I reach there it will be dark out. He starts yelling for me to take responsibility and I snap, tell him to head there himself and that i quit this goddamn job. Then i hung up on him. Most satisfying moment ever.
Why is it so hard for managers to just admit that client shouldve been more responsible and answered the goddamn phone? Why cant he tell the client that I had called her several times and didnt answer and that they can reschedule it as its closed time?
