Last week my team leader left, leaving me with the work of 4 people, to myself. I’ve been at my company 3 months to the day, and have been given the responsibilities and expectations of someone with a years+ experience. There was no mention when she left of a pay increase for me or anything.
Then, over the weekend I got paid – after I cleared my overdraft, rent, etc…I realised that if I didn’t have a second job I would have been left in the single digits for the next three weeks (thanks Putin, inflation, and Boris, I really love you all).
Anyways, I work two jobs and it’s actually caused me so much anxiety and stress I threw up in the office last week. My therapist has suggested I take AL and rest for a few days.
So today, right at 5:30, I had an email typed up to my manager and director. I laid out the very valid reasons to ask for a raise of 6.5% (if nothing else, just to keep up with inflation). I work in sales and sure the jobs are good right now, but my market is tough to break into and slow for traction. So although I’m seeing results, it’s not sustainable right now.
Anyways, I sent the email and left the office! Will find out tomorrow morning what the outcome is.
Might I add: it’s only because of this sub did I have the guts to do this. You all made me realise my worth, and that’s it’s worth fighting for a living wage. Especially if I’m doing the work of 4 people! And there no one that can easily replace me, I know they won’t risk losing me, so let’s hope for the best
