I needed a major lifesaving surgery. I knew I was going to be in the hospital for at least a week afterwards. I can’t have a full time salaried job with benefits because I have serious health issues and need flexible scheduling. So, I’m classified as an independent contractor. That makes health insurance crazy expensive.
I just escaped an abusive marriage, found work and got my own place a few months ago, so my budget is tight. I couldn’t afford to miss a week of work, so I had to bring my laptop to the damn hospital and start working again the day after my surgery. Even lifting my arms to type made the incision hurt like hell.
I really hate this country sometimes.
