I don’t hate landlords, just mine. Can’t switch to a month to month lease unless my landlord raises the rent another $200, which he knows I can’t afford.

When I first moved into my apartment the agreement was I'd sign a 12 month lease, and then it would go to a month to month. Not even six months into my lease, and the owner sells the building to a property management company. I have paid on time every month for almost 5 years, except for just a few times I was late. I had never planned on being in my apartment for more than 5 years. It was always meant to be temporary, and I told my landlord this. I have been wanting to go to a month to month contract like my original landlord intended, but with this landlord I can't unless I fork out money I don't have. Not to mention he has consistently raised the rent by $100 every year, so I'm really feeling the squeeze. I understand it's his every right to raise the rent after every lease, but it doesn't make it right. And I can't break the lease unless I pay up to the end of it, and I can't afford that either. So it's like I'm forced to live here perpetually, unless I get kicked out. I'm only given a certain time frame to look for another place to live before my lease ends, which by that time there is nothing else available.

Just can't help but feel like my landlord is being exploitative, and me feeling forced to live here. If I could find job that paid decent, it would be easy. My current employer pays me far less, with double the amount of work. I hate this world. Greedy, exploitative assholes, the lot of them.
