I don’t know what to do about this situation

I’m a little perplexed about the situation I found myself in I would love some input/help on what I should do. I work for a fairly well known company in sales and about two weeks ago I was working with just myself and my assistant general manager (AGM) the GM wasn’t there when this interracial couple walks in, and my AGM says to me “she would be hotter if she didn’t fuck n words” (hard r and everything) I immediately responded saying that’s fucked up and that I myself am in an interracial relationships. AGM responded saying “my bad but you should lighten up”. I walked away and didn’t talk to him for the rest of the day. He knew I was in an interracial relationship from previous conversations. AGM responded saying “my bad but you should lighten up”. I walked away and didn’t talk to him for the rest of the day. He knew I was in an interracial relationship from previous conversations. After about a week of talking to my girlfriend about it and a couple family members I reported the incident to HR. I told them everything sparing no details. A few days went by then they made some calls to other department heads (who also said they heard him make racists comments in the past) and to my GM. My GM pulled me aside to talk and said “I should have reported to him directly or our regional vp instead of actually going to HR and make a big deal out of it”. I wanted documentation of the incident though and thought I was doing the right thing that way it wasn’t just going to be swept under the rug. then the GM said “In this scenario its more than likely they will remove you because You are newer to the company opposed to the AGM who has been here for almost a year. Not to mention no one will want to work with you now” which left me even more confused. Especially considering my GM is African American. Essentially he is taking his side now and having me do petty tasks and writing me up for dress code because I wore a blue polo and not a black one but in the employee hand book it states that it just has to be a solid color polo. Funny enough we are supposed to be business casual but he allows the AGM to wear sweats, T-shirt’s, and tennis shoes. I’m just lost on what to do now. I return to work tomorrow and expect to talk to the vp about the situation since he’s been on vacation. Should I be expecting to get fired? His really really lost right now.

TLDR
I reported my superior to our HR department for making a racist comment and now it seems like I’m about to get fired. What do I do?
