“I don’t want you to work while on vacation, but…”

Last week I was on vacation abroad – 5 days off work. Answering the calls from work would cost me a fortune since I was in other country. So I decided to turn off the SIM and be online only while on wifi. After coming back to work my boss called me: “Listen, I don’t want you to work while on vacation but you should at least 5 minutes a day go online and forward important emails to others. Plus you can’t simply turn off your phone.” I didn’t know what to say. Got his point but I don’t want to think about the work even few minutes a day while on vacation and don’t want to be stressed out by “unknown numbers” and important clients while I know I can’t answer the call. What would you tell the boss? What’s your practice while not in office?
