I feel like I’m a wage slave with no way out

Hey all. I've found myself in quite the predicament. I currently work as a driving instructor in AZ and the position is under 1099 even though I have a set schedule and hours and everything is treated as if I was a w2 employee without any benefits whatsoever. I've had a few accidents from students during my employment and it's now at the point where i've had to pay for repairs to one of the vehicles. I've gotten documentation of this and such but my 'boss' is now stating that if I get in one more accident or I quit, i'm to be held financially responsible for the damage to all the previous cars that occurred totaling about $20k. The contract we have is quite arbitrary and most of the bullet points in there just say to ask management for anything, but there is a line that says “contractor may…
