I’ve worked at this company for five years, as a contract employee. Which means I report to a supervisor on site but get paid by the contract agency. Anyway, I’m tired of making what I am paid, which is $20 an hour. To sit and do detailed cad drawings of machinery all day. Easy job, right.
I’m 46 years old. This is my 23rd year doing this type of work. I have two nearly teen daughters. I have an array of health problems.
I know if I ask for a raise, the answer will be No. I know if I asked to be hired outright by the client company, the answer will be No. Quite frankly, I don’t want to be hired by this company, the employee rule book is ridiculous and their HR woman is a psycho bitch. I like the people in my department and the work isn’t mind bending.
But I’m about done being underpaid. The company has never given me any shit about the amount of time I have to take off for doctor appts and days I can’t drag in it to work. But I know they don’t like it.
I more or less mail it in everyday. There’s no reason to work hard, I don’t get anything if units ship early, and no one would bother saying thanks if they did. Hell, contractors aren’t even allowed to take birthday cookies at the beginning of each month.
Everyday, I want to just say Fuck this place, grab my stuff and walk out.
