I Finally Resigned and it feels SO good

I started this job a little over a year ago as an entry level employee, and got promoted a few months in to a management role. Worst decision I ever made. I then directly reported to the CEO, and my mental health started deteriorating. He was a micromanager who often made little sense about company strategy or direction. In no particular order, he: Has never raised salaries for promoted employees (there were 10+ managers in the office working on entry level base pay salaries) Short-changed multiple employees on bonuses which he gave verbal consent to honoring (including myself) Changed the company schedule to require work on weekends Refused to allow any managers decision-making power (i.e. hiring entry level employees, giving refunds to clients, even PTO had to go through him for every employee) Told me to my face that it would be a better financial decision to have fewer…

I started this job a little over a year ago as an entry level employee, and got promoted a few months in to a management role. Worst decision I ever made. I then directly reported to the CEO, and my mental health started deteriorating. He was a micromanager who often made little sense about company strategy or direction. In no particular order, he:

  • Has never raised salaries for promoted employees (there were 10+ managers in the office working on entry level base pay salaries)
  • Short-changed multiple employees on bonuses which he gave verbal consent to honoring (including myself)
  • Changed the company schedule to require work on weekends
  • Refused to allow any managers decision-making power (i.e. hiring entry level employees, giving refunds to clients, even PTO had to go through him for every employee)
  • Told me to my face that it would be a better financial decision to have fewer employees working in our branch, insinuating that he could at any time fire me and my team
  • Told my co-manager and I that he could not pay employees a higher wage, and later mentioned that his budget for a *singular* company party was 75% of an employee's entry level pay
  • Consistently spoke on retainment being a problem, but would not improve working conditions, policies, or pay in any substantive way
  • Cut a program that decreased our clientele by 25%, which effectively killed my employees' chances at meeting their quotas

My co-manager and I always did our best to fight back on some of the more heinous changes, but he never relented.

Then a few weeks ago–I found out that after a year of making the same salary, my co-manager was given a higher raise than I was (1000+ more), and there was no discussion as to why the CEO made this decision. We had been working at the company for the same amount of time in the same roles, and had the same level of education.

I was informed of this via email, on a Friday afternoon. My boss at this point, was 2 weeks into a nearly month-long vacation.

The next week, I found another job that would pay me 30% more for non-management position in my field, has better benefits, and a more flexible schedule. I sent in my two weeks on a Friday via email to my boss, still on his vacation, the same way they told me about my pay.

Never felt so vindicated.
