I Gave My Notice, Response Infuriating

I gave my notice today after receiving a formal job offer from a new employer. I will have better working conditions, and higher pay at my new job. I should be ecstatic, right? I called my employer to discuss this with them directly, as they are a small company. No response. I emailed my notice. The usual thank you for the opportunity, it's me not you, blah blah blah. I received a one line response- Thank you, appreciate it. I've been working an insane amount of overtime. My last pay period I felt like a slacker for having only clocked a 140 hours in a 15 day pay period. I have missed funerals, my own doctor's appointments (and I have two rare diseases so keeping doctor's appointments is kind of important), I cannot adequately describe the havoc this job has wrecked on my life. When one of my closest friends became my boss the friend became a tyrant. Our friendship is over. This is especially sad for our children who have been close friends since they were in diapers. This company has taken everything from me, and can't even muster more than a thank you, appreciate it.

The sheer entitlement is mind blowing. We are entitled to your life. In return we will shame you, start malicious rumors about you, we will break you. When you are broken we will not acknowledge your hard work, that we underpaid you compared to your less experienced peers, we will not even pretend to wish you well. I cannot wait for my boss's next social media post nObOdY wAnTs tO WoRk. I know it's not smart to burn bridges, but some people are just begging for a public shaming.

Don't work for friends. In this economy, there are no friends where employment is involved.

Don't EVER give more than you get back. There is nothing honorable about being used.
