I gave them my two weeks and they scheduled me for Wednesday anyway

I’ve been helping out for well below a liveable wage at this curling club over the past few months. I really like my co-workers, and the job is not without its silly little perks (food and drink, little oversight). Though some of the clients are tolerable, most of them are entitled little shits who are attempting to blend in with the old money by being totally obnoxious and demanding. Two Mondays ago I gave them my two weeks. It was approved and everyone was sad to see me go. On my last shift (this passed Wednesday) they told me they’d need me again on Wednesday whenever I could make it, be it 5 or 6 or 7pm, just to relieve my (ex)coworker who would be expected to open and close otherwise (9am-11pm). I’ve been helping out for well below a liveable wage at this curling club over the past few months.

I told them I needed two weeks to get acclimated to my new job, that I was taking it very seriously and wanted to be able to give it my 100%. I told them after those two weeks I might be able to help here and there. I’ve been in the service industry for almost 10 years and this is my first real job with a salary and day one health insurance, and I am not going to fuck it up for this snooty Curling Club.

The thing is, it’s run by a board, because it’s technically a heritage building and technically a not for profit. So the only people that I can inform of my situation, and those who will suffer, are my (ex) coworkers. And it makes me feel guilty to leave them hanging, EVEN THOUGH it’s the board that’s put them in this position.

I know the right thing to do is not take the shift. But I am feeling guilted, and wouldn’t want to have my 50 year old co worker and friend work a 13 hour shift.

What do I do? Do I call in and tell them to kick rocks? Do I demand a higher hourly for not respecting my 2 weeks? The worst part is that I don’t even know who to speak to other than my co worker, the chef, who seems to speak with the board the most..

Any thoughts? P.S I am not opposed to any less than ethical solutions. This place has constantly been putting stress on its staff to get out earlier, so that they don’t have to pay us as much. All the while we’ve all been doing two peoples job since COVID 2 electric boogaloo (about December) and being paid the exact same. They always tell us the restaurant upstairs puts the club itself in the red because of staff costs alone.

TL:DR, I really do enjoy my (ex)co workers, and don’t want to see them suffer because I won’t come in after I gave my approved two weeks notice. Also fuck these rich clients and the board that put is in the position, and always tells us that we, the staff, are the reason for the clubs financial hardships (all the while refusing to show us any receipts)
