I got a call from my wife saying my son fell at school and was being taken to the hospital, and I can’t believe that my first thought was “I need to check if they need me before I leave”

I changed that thought to just go say I'm leaving, and was given no trouble in doing so, but I'm just disappointed and horrified that we're so conditioned to put work at such a high priority. Never again!
