I had been having other issues, so I think they were looking for an excuse to let me go anyway, but I cant get over the irony.
Basically I worked in a hotel, and they had to fire all their KPs so front of house staff ended up having to do the dishes. I have sensitive skin so I looked around for gloves, but couldn't find any where they should be stored. I wasn't going to leave my colleague to do all the dish washing herself, so I just got on with it. It took maybe 2+ hours to get it all done.
The next day I had rashes all over my body, and my lips started to swell up. I'm first aid trained, (an investment I made in my own employability lol shoot me) and I know that lip swelling is the time to call an ambulance.
I notified my work, and they found cover for my shift. The Medics said it was okay, I still had time to make it in, so I offered to come in and they told me it was fine.
Next day I recieve a phonecall telling me they had decided to let me go, for being late (valid, but I was making an effort to be on time more, and I was never more than 5 minutes late) and for Missing Shifts. I had only missed one shift, and it was because of a medical emergency, which was caused by my work.
Ultimately I think my supervisor just didn't like me, and wanted an excuse to fire me. I'm currently exploring my options in terms of what to do about this, and I live in the UK if anyone has any tips or insight.
My work is generally a bit of a mess. Its purse strings are pretty tight, and so we don't have a manager who would be responsible for things like PPE being available, staff being put in roles they aren't trained for, various other safety issues in the workplace, etc.
I figured this story fit pretty well here.
