so yesterday i felt ill in the morning and i decided to go to work anyway. not knowing i had a 103.4 fever. i was working all day yesterday and my shift ended at 4, they told me i could go home at 3:30 because they saw how pale i was, and i said “it’s okay, i can do this.”. i worked as hard as i could accidentally dropping a fryer basket because i was so weak i couldn’t hold it up with one hand as i can usually do on a day im not sick. obviously. i dropped it back into the fryer and hot oil burned me all over, i looked up and everything started spinning and i fainted. it was about 3:45.
i was taken to the ER and they told me i had a fever, which i didn’t know i had, and strep throat. they asked me how i could possibly get through work and i just… did, you know? and my boss tried calling me when i was in the hospital and she texted me when i didn’t answer because I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL, and she asked if we could talk tomorrow. i said absolutely we can.
today, she calls me at 4:30 and basically tells me that “i just want to touch base with you here, my husband and i were talking last night and we decided there’s no room for you anymore, thank you for everything you did but we don’t need you anymore.”
so i sat there, in absolute fucking tears because i worked despite me being so fucking ill that my skin was actually gray, and they had the audacity to fire me?
their reason was that i made too many french fries sometimes and it was a waste. which i made too many french fries maybe 3 times of my 6 months of working there. they also said i keep my station a mess, but how am i supposed to be on top of cleaning my fry baskets when there’s someone ordering fries every minute? (i would clean it when i had more than 3 minutes)
i worked at a family owned business, not a chain restaurant.
