Some back story:
Started in December at this new establishment in my industry as a mechanic. Negotiated a decent wage and started almost immediately. Was told there was going to be big things happening as the company was going through a transition. Told them I was committed to growing with the company. Had a weird lunch party where the new owner was talking about changes and pay increases and so on and was quite excited. One day was discussing pay related topics with a colleague and I mentioned how much I was getting paid which is where he gave me the cold hard truth of what he was actually getting paid. He has been at the company for several years and hasn’t gotten a consistent pay increase.
Fast forward to today and I am 2 months in at this new job. No performance issues or complaints. I was called into the office around the time I’m supposed to finish, went in and gave me the bad news. I asked why and they said it was due to things slowing down which I call BS. Later on I hear that I was indirectly informed that it was due to my pay and it was causing questions amongst my ex colleagues in similar positions. So in order to stop those questions, they eliminated the person that got paid a decent wage than give a liveable wage to the people who the same thing but more.
I’m pretty upset as I have a pregnant wife who is due soon so it definitely sets me back a bit. But it’s just upsetting that no matter how hard you work it’s all numbers to them. Just a pawn in their little game of math.
Anyway my rant is over. Thanks for listening.
TL;DR: got let go cause I started making a decent wage and colleagues found out how much I was getting paid and went to management after never getting a pay raise.
