I got petty and responded to a rejected job offer

I'm a mid-20s guy stuck doing school photography. During the holiday season, I was told I would have 3 weeks off of work. No biggie. Ended up being 9 weeks without working and I missed 2 months of rent purely because my boss kept lying to me. Used this opportunity to look for new jobs and, as many of you are probably well aware, the current job market sucks. I only found one job that pays more than my current, as well as full benefits (parents are retiring, this is a must), and conveniently I have a friend that works for them. I apply to an opening they have. They then close the opening because they don't “need the job until the summer.” My friend stuck their neck out for me, “Bluecanna really wants this job and needs it now, and if you hire him he can be trained and…

They then close the opening because they don't “need the job until the summer.” My friend stuck their neck out for me, “Bluecanna really wants this job and needs it now, and if you hire him he can be trained and ready for the busy season come summer.” Bosses understood and gave me the interview. Nailed the interview. Ends with the typical “we'll get back to you early next week.”

2 weeks go by and I finally get an email saying “hey, you're great, you nailed the interview, you have everything we need, but we aren't hiring you. We will keep your resume on file in case another position opens.” Found out from that friend that this morning the company fired 90 people for budget cuts despite having record-breaking profits. So I decided to be petty and respond to the recruiter's email.

My email reads:

Hello,

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. To save you some energy, I am letting you know you do not need to save my resume for any future openings. I do not wait months for a company to decide I'm finally worth their time. I hope the many people you fired this week have found something better.

Lukewarm Regards,
Bluecanna

I hate being petty but I am sick and tired of recruiters and bosses exploiting us. Give us better pay, give us benefits, and put those things on the job listing. Don't waste weeks of my time to end with “we only pay minimum wage.”
