I noticed on my pay stub recently that I had been given an hourly rate 19 cents higher than on earlier pay stubs. I emailed the person covering for my boss while she is on medical leave, and they didn't reply. HR doesn't like replying to emails either, but I haven't asked them about it yet.
Husband thinks I should keep nagging them to explain why this happened. I guess I feel awkward about it. I haven't worked here long enough to warrant a raise, but the VP was talking about “merit-based increases” about a month ago, and I don't automatically think this 19 cents was supposed to be that. My cynical side says it is, and they snuck it in without talking to me first because they don't want me to negotiate higher. I'm guessing most of you would agree.
Has anyone else ever had something like this happen with their salary?
