I hate how work changes people

I’ve got a decent job, I love what I do and I wouldn’t really want to do anything else. But one thing I really can’t stand is how it changes people. I like most of the people I work with, but there was one person I got on with better than anyone there. We started at the same time in similar roles, and have always helped each other out with stuff that overlapped and got on well outside work too. They got promoted last year and I took on some extra stuff to help them out. But that extra responsibility goes to people’s heads so fast. We started at the same time in similar roles, and have always helped each other out with stuff that overlapped and got on well outside work too. They got promoted last year and I took on some extra stuff to help them out. But that extra responsibility goes to people’s heads so fast. They always talked about how people would push one way do things on us and stifle our creativity. All of a sudden, they were the one pushing that one way to do things on me. It got to the point where they just straight talked down to me as if I was a child and told me how much I was damaging the work that we were doing. I wasn’t taking that, especially because I was literally only doing that work to help them out. I told my boss that I wanted to spend that time doing something else, and they were okay with it, but apparently that person told them that I “wasn’t progressing as they hoped”. I think they also reported one of my tweets (which wasn’t even anything bad, just expressing an opinion on something we’re supposed to be impartial on) to our bosses which got me into shit with them because we have to “represent the company” on social media. I’ve tweeted similar stuff before, my colleagues (including this person!) have tweeted more biased stuff and continue to do so, but apparently I’m the only one the rule applies to.

I haven’t interacted with them since because fuck that, I’m not taking that shit. I do enjoy my job, but stuff like that just pisses me right off. The amount of shit this person has talked about everyone, including our bosses, would end their career. But I’m not lowering myself to their level, and I’m not jeopardising my career for something that petty.
