I hate this job

So, my director had a meeting with the division managers and supervisors (of which I am one) today to go over the team members PTO. He stopped short of declaring a new policy, but stated that as leadership, we, managers and supervisors, should only use 50% of our earned PTO. He thinly veiled it with the usual, “you never know when you may need it for an emergency” argument, but his main focus was the perception of the rest of the staff. “They see when you are not here and I have to hear the grumbling about it.” Not verbatim, but pretty damn close. Frankly, I couldn’t give a flying FUCK what my staff’s perception of me is because I have earned their respect and I reciprocate the feeling appropriately. Frankly, I couldn’t give a flying FUCK what my staff’s perception of me is because I have earned their respect and I reciprocate the feeling appropriately. I have never declined a PTO request because use of earned PTO is a benefit of the position and whoever has earned it, has the privilege of using it at their own discretion.

I’m just not sure how to handle this. I have never in my 20+ year professional career been told something this asinine and authoritarian. This may be the straw that breaks my back.
