For some context, I've worked at my job for five years and I've accrued a lot of sick time in the process. (I was saving up for when they were going to stop paying for two weeks off due to COVID-related illness in September.) As of today, I have about 170 hours of sick time on my books – but I've since gotten a formal offer and a start date with another company.
Maybe it's my bad because I put in an early resignation and have given them a little over a month's worth of notice. I've actually enjoyed my work and I wanted to make a transition as seamless as possible for whoever they manage to hire before I leave, since our hiring process can take a while. But now I'm sitting on over three weeks worth of sick time that I won't get paid for due to policy and there's no one I can donate it to – since policy dictates it has to be a catastrophic emergency for us to donate time. And I refuse to leave here on that since I earned those hours.
Calling out for more than 3 days requires a doctor's note and I cannot claim COVID since we're attached to a clinic and they verify whether or not we have COVID (since they'll pay for that time off).
Does anyone have any advice on how to maybe get at least some of this time spent down before my last day?
TLDR: I accrued too much sick time, my last day is in a month, I can't donate it to anyone. I need advice on how to try and spend it down so it's not lost $$$.
