That number is wrong. Assuming you're saving 4% into a 401k, putting away $100/month into your HSA and the government is only taking out 25% in taxes you need $84,000/month or $40.38/hr.
Or nearly 30% MORE than is quoted in the post.
If you're making below $84,000k/year (nearly 85% of America) you literally can't meet the standard rent requirements on your own.
