Quick background leading up to this: I smoke weed, a few days ago while I was delivering for my job the foot step gave way while I was getting out and I fell in between the step and the curb, twisted my ankle and it's been sprained ever since. Went to work on following Sunday, got my paperwork on Monday after seeing the occupational doctor and a drug test, fired on Thursday (today) for the weed.
Now I'm in my room with my kids watching Nick Jr and I gotta say my emotional state is hovering between whatever and excitement. I was planning on quitting in July so getting fired a few months ahead of time is just fine by me. Told my wife and she was just “well you were planning on quitting anyway” which I'm glad for because I honestly didn't know how she'd react but she's just a-ok and supportive. Already took a few minutes to look at unemployment and a few job applications but honestly yeah….idc I got fired.
The first time I got fired I was almost heartbroken and ashamed but after today it's just acceptance and happiness I don't have to work 10+ hours anymore of grueling physical labor from morning to night anymore. Carrying 4 to 5 different packages to 3 different houses all with no dolly, despite requesting one several times. Don't have to deal with random people asking me where there packages are and the inevitable attitude when I tell them to call customer service or track it through the app. No more Karen's and Kevin's getting pissed I “didn't park right” while I'm clearly making a delivery. No more cronies cracking the whip because I “spent 7 minutes on a stop that should only take 5 minutes”. No more working my knee and hips to the bone from all the underpaid labor I do all day. No more pissing in bottles or frantically searching for a public bathroom because I've been holding a shit for 5 and a half hours because I can't afford to fall behind on my route. No more finding piss bottles in the delivery van first thing in the morning that you assume is from the day before but judging from the layer grime it's safe to say it's been there longer. No more “hey just mark everything good on the vehicle report but if anything's broken just take a pic with your personal phone and maintenance will get to it”. Like the foot step I almost broke my ankle on was “fixed” but that's neither here nor there.
Honestly I was barely getting any benefits so getting fired was like getting set free from a slave plantation. Only downside is I won't get to see my workmates anymore but on the bright side my work schedule was Sunday – Wednesday which means today was technically my day off. I literally got fired on my day off so the Friday fan in me got a chuckle out of that.
