My work is bumping the maximum cook wage from $16.25 to $17.50 starting Monday as an effort to retain staff and help recruiting. I was informed via my boss pulling me aside and whispering about it and urging me to not tell any of the other cooks. I saw one other cook get pulled aside for what seemed to be a similar conversation.
My store has a lot of ladies that only speak a minuscule amount of English. I’ve already been aware that they’re considered unpromotable, but I’m now near certain they’re also being excluded from this pay increase. This just really doesn’t sit right with me but I don’t know what to do.
