I lied about my life to get the position I wanted

About 2 years ago, I started working a tech support position that pays $24/hr. Prior to that, my work experience was in fast food, which went on for a bit too long (I was a cook). The only way I got my foot in the door for an interview with said company was by completely bullshitting my resume by listing similar positions on it (the position required a minimum of 2 yrs of experience in similar tech support positions). Talking about them in the interview was brutal, but I had backstories planned and managed to squeak by. A few months into my employment with the company, they found out my resume was bullshit and my boss confronted me (I never asked how they found out). They didn't even try to contact my former employers before I started. I know because the 'companies' were just made up and I provided my friends cell phone numbers.

Anyway, I was honest at that point. Do you know what happened to me? Nothing at all. He told me to get back to work. Yes, I kept my job. I was doing well, so they were kind of like, fuck it we'll keep him. I will say, I probably did get lucky to have a boss that looked past my lie. I've brought it up once since then as I was being considered as a candidate for another position within the company and he said it won't make a difference.

Maybe he felt bad for me. I'm ok with that. Probably never would have gotten the interview if my resume had a fast food joint as my primary place of work. I'm glad I'm not making sandwiches and fries anymore, and my wrist and legs don't hurt after each shift. I just did what I had to do to look out for myself. No regrets… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
