For context I work at Amazon and they recently transitioned the managers in our department from hourly to salary (our L4s were hourly up until earlier this year if you work at Amazon and are confused by this).
I was friendly with the night manager who I knew before he got promoted and we talked occasionally and was really happy about the pay bump to 64K a year.
I told him “That's barely above minimum wage for salaried employees since 62k is the minimum in California.”
Then I took a 4 day weekend and when I came back he was gone.
I know 64k is a lot for some people but if 62k is the minimum for salary employees then I consider that the minimum wage for them and 2k more a year isn't much more.
