My employee lost two relatives in an instant in a tragic accident. As is common practice at our company, I sent flowers. But, I failed to factor in the delivery fee, and as a result, I exceeded the allotted amount by $6.55. The bereaved employee got a message from payroll informing them that someone has to write a check for $6.55 or the full amount will be reported as taxable income. Aside from the fact that we'll spend far more than $6.55 to resolve this, the craven commitment to bureaucracy is just sucking my will to persevere at this place. Of course I'll pay the $6.55, but my sheesh. What a place to be.
Update: I noted that by sending one bouquet to cover two deaths, I actually saved the company money, but my suggestion to simply divide the total by two was rejected. My own fault — I should have simply made it two transactions.
