As the title says, I work for a local music venue running sound and lights for their performances. I am a salary employee, so I get paid the same amount no matter what. This business isn't short staffed, but has a crew that is “small but mighty” by design so everybody is tight knit even though the only people I like are my bosses.
During the weekend we have some outdoor events that offer general barbecue and grilled items like hot dogs and sandwiches. I agreed to help cook as it something I enjoy, and my boss said that I will receive an extra rate of pay at $20/hr for cooking, which is a great rate for the area as I used to be a chef in the past and I really need the extra money. There is only one other cook and myself doing these events for 100+ people.
I have been doing this every weekend this summer and I finally checked my pay stub online since I have direct deposit, and found out that I have only been getting paid $5/hr for cooking. I figured the numbers were just low due to taxes. Obviously this already on top of my salary, and I don't want to sound greedy but I was lied too. I agreed to cook as an extracurricular for fun and as an opportunity to make more so I can save, I'm literally the sound guy. How do I go about bringing up this conversation and telling my boss? (Btw my boss is also my landlord so I don't want to disrupt our personal/work relationship) Is there a legal way that she is getting around this that I don't know about since I'm in a salaried position?
